project weekend

some new things in the works this week...
pants & quilt for em,
crayon pouch for sarah!

the quilt for em...e got me that fabric when em wasn't even a twinkle in her mama's eye. i thought for sure i would finish it before she was born, even more sure it would be wrapped up under the tree for christmas...okay must be done by her 1st birthday--now we hope it will be done for her second birthday!

an earnest start...

the klee quilt has been slowly integrating itself into our daily work of organizing and cleaning our little nest in north yarmouth.
steph and i have been cutting and numbering, laying out and relaying.
it's funny how at the end of the day the quilt will reflect the days activities. dogs walking thru, toddlers throwing patches here and there..and some patches even migrate into the living room.
i love how these patterns are invading our homestead...
and look forward to what the next few days will bring.

a package full of dreams:

this summer is really heating up.
a lot of projects i had planned have been put on the back burner for some other projects AND a part time job.
the part timer life is okay, but i really miss being at home with emma and the alex is a teacher but this is his first 'true' summer off. he usually works out on a farm in freedom that supplies the veggies for the farm to table restaraunt chase's daily (my former alma matter also). but this year since we are just getting our feet wet in the greater portland area he is only teaching a 1 day a week music workshop at urbano.
so- lots of beaches, swimming and biking. lots of days at home with our wee one while i'm at work.
this is to say though- i recv'd, a few weeks back, a wonderful package in the mail. a project which will officially start july 28th with the arrival of an old friend from high school who is an artist and prof. in houston see here:
we have decided to make a quilt together referencing paul klee's painting.
we are using all thirfted materials (pillow cases, sheets, table linens)
you must know by now dear readers my love of old vintage linens runs deep. esp. vintage pillow cases. over the years i have bonded with several ladies over this fact. namely hannah and steph- the latter whom i will share this undertaking with.
she snipped some samples of her stash and sent them along!
with this sweet jumper & some stuffed animals for em too!
with our re-meeting only a few days short of 2 weeks away, we are getting pretty excited over here.

feeling klee

{gee's bend quilt selection pictured above}
{klee painting above, hand numbered by stephanie in preparation for our work.love the look it}

about to take up a great collaboration with a dear old friend...and really looking forward to it!
the idea is to make this klee painting into a quilt. it's a bit of an undertaking actually what with all those irregular sized squares and uneven bits. we are really inspired by the quilts of gee's bend...
we plan on using only thrifted cotton, which i admit makes finding the right pallet a challenge...but who, my loves, does not enjoy a thrifting challenge from time to time!
steph is a wonderful artist and professor and all around amazing light and i am so lucky to be reconnecting with her on this project
more to follow!
wish us luck!
