{making a little christmas}

this year i so looked forward to crafting with my little bits. she can really understand this year how everyone gets a present and she was sure that each person was accounted for. she made little things for almost all our loved ones! she was very specific too, she made sure i added this or that ribbon, this color jingle bell and on and on.
i have been struck lately at how having something "made by....(insert name here)" has entered into her thoughts and play lately. if she really LOVES something she will say "mama made that for me?!" or "papa made that for me?!" even though i think she knows we didn't -- it is more like a word of love.
handmade equals love to her--
how could i ask for a better present this year than having my almost three year old knowing that when something is handmade it r.a.d.i.a.t.e.s. the love of the person who made it!
today i wrapped them all up and look forward to the look on everyones faces when they open their wee handmade present from little bits!!!
pictured also our what mama made this year:
sweet pickles, honied beets & rose hip jam!

making snow fairies

snowing, finally}

tree for a goose girl

this year is the first year little bits has had a tree. the first year we were moving and the second year we were away and on the tird year we finally rested, got our own tree and made a go of it. the thing is she LOVES it. i can often find her -- heels crossed arm behind her head laying on the run just under the tree looking at it. i asked her the other day what she was doing and she replied with a serious grin: "don't bother me mama i am in my cozy place".
so so stinkin' cute!
SO while her and papa are away i decided what better present then to get her her OWN tree. small and round and full of her favorite things like "breakable santas" and "haycorns","jingerbells" and pinecones too.
i hope she adores it as much as i have. i know having it all lit up on these nights when she has been away has made me miss her less and more at the same time!
looking forward to the return of little bits and her papa on christmas eve!

dyeing silks

have been working in dying some silks this month. i started out dyeing some for playschool, i just wanted really soft soft colors, kind of like waldorf watercolors. the results were cheery and soft and i really love them. look forward to offering them in the new year! i'll keep you posted!

{lantern walk}

this week we celebrated martinmas by holding a small lantern walk at our new playschool location. although we had a few stumbles, lights that went out too soon and it wasn't quite dusk when we started out it was still lovely and nourishing the way only a lantern walk can be. the children and I are still humming our songs from the past few weeks as the play becomes centered around lanterns, fire and walking out to the crabapple tree where the walk to place to look for lost lanterns, lost mittens and papa footprints. instead we found half eaten deer apples (almost more exciting!)
