the holiday lights are on!

{making a moss garden}

"the woods are lovely dark and deep" wrote robert frost, and we feel that more than ever in the new england summer. when you step from the fine manicured grass on your lawn to the dappled forest right behind that row of birch trees. all is quiet in the wood. the soft floor a mix of old pine needles, dirt and lichen, moss. downed tree limbs rot quietly in the shade making an earthy wonderful smell, witches butter and toadstools pop up here and there. the forest really is a magical place...and so for children to.

we venture into the wood and find moss growing thick on rocks, with our baskets and small hands we collect all that we will need for the making of our moss garden. we find dry birch bark, smooth rocks and reindeer lichen, and all are treasures.

the easiest way to make a moss garden is to collect what you will need from the forest floor, and taking a shallow dish (we love an old thrift store find or a terra cotta houseplant dish) and add a thin layer of potting soil then your moss and forest fauna.

then we find another earthly treasure such as a neat stone or crystal and place it in the garden.

you must water it frequently to keep the earth moist, but it will last a very long time!

we are really looking forward to listing our new crowns, complete with the new ribbon we have been raving about!
AND to top it off our most favorite photographer, karen kline, of pretty simple productions has taken up the task of doing a whole photo shoot for us of the new merchandise. we adore karen's take on the world and wish we could see everything through her eyes with clear light and soft fuzzy edges!

pretty as a picture

things to love about parties are the dainty details, i always think. and my baby shower was no different. the amazing women in my life pooled their resources and talents together and threw me such a wonderful day. i mentioned it earlier, but am finally getting to posting some pictures of the divine food! stephy made the sweetest all lady tea sandwiches a nd let me tell you there is nothing like a cucumber tea sandwich to make you feel dainty...even when you're not really! sarah made the lovely punch which i snapped a zillion photos of! no matter how many times in my life i've seen fresh edible flowers in a punch bowl- the magic and beauty of it never gets old to me. i just love the teesny petals! it was a perfect wake up to summer and welcome to little baby! looking forward to sharing his name with you later this week!

i got to party with this girl!

this past weekend i had a great adventure...fall foliage style! my dear friend kay was visiting from her west coast to shoot some weddings and i was lucky enough to assist...that meant all inclusive trip, hotel and wonderful food in stowe vermont.
it was THE MOST LOVELY weekend for peeping the leaves...it was almost too much to take. the views were breathtaking, the wedding was atop the mountian via a fancy (and kinda scary gondola ride up the mt.) and commenced with a sunday morning farmer's market stop(hot cider, chevre, and handmade bread)...where the band there played "california stars"...oh wilco.

i mean come.on.
vermont made goat cheese and wilco AND fall leaves.

a little something to covet

call it a sin, but i covet thy neighbors tub.
that is to say -- i really miss my old cast iron clawfoot.
i was convinced tho' that in my days of flea market and road side hunts i'd seen a tub or two for a decent price.
so em and i went a hunting.
we saw these and fell in love.
affordable, but hey- how do you get a heavy heavy tub to north yarmouth in your toyota? hmpf!
